Anima Sana In Corpore Sano – this is what ASICS stands for: a healthy mind in a healthy body. That ethos has been followed for decades, and the GEL-KAYANO TM line debuted in 1993, inspired by stag beetles is, undoubtedly, an all-purpose running shoe that keeps this idea rather vivid.

We won’t bother you with all the story and development of all the 25 versions of the GEL-KAYANO TM model itself, though there is one that we feel obliged to mention: number 14, and a little bit of its history; let us call it food for thought.

The ASICS GEL-KAYANO TM 14 can arguably be on the list of one of the best pairs of late 2020 (or even early 2021). Originally released in 2008, this retro runner now makes its glorious return, still displaying an avant-garde and bold look, regardless of some tech-twists.

Awarded with the Editor’s Choice Award by Runner’s World, the pair shows off out-of-this-world characteristics, such as its exposed GEL cushioning system as well as its lining that prevents ankle displacement. Its designer, Hidenori Yamashita, took inspirations from “flash”, when a “(…)burst of action where the runner lands at the heel and pushes away at the toes.”

By making sure that style does not compromise function, this honest design is communicated with silvery elements, open mesh for the upper and striking colours.

The ASICS GEL-KAYANO TM is a direct descendant of the GT-COOL EXPRESS, yet the original release was more about looks, despite perspiring technology.
