The Nike Air Force 1 is considered to be one of the most iconic silhouettes of all time and has stood tall with its cult status for decades. Designed by Bruce Kilgore, originally released in the early 80’s and adopted by quite a few NBA superstars, it is geared with an attribute that changed footwear history as we know it: the AF1 was the first-ever Nike basketball shoe to feature Air cushioning.
Back then, they were hard to get a hold of. Not only due to their own success, but also because not every shop was fortunate enough to get them. Well, it kind of rings a bell with what is happening with some releases nowadays. Nevertheless, by transcending race, gender and class, the AF1 is now bigger than ever.
On the other hand, we have all witnessed the rise of the Dunk during 2020, hence this striking “Rayguns” iteration. Yet again, let us stroll back to early 2000’s where this sneaker gets inspiration from, more specifically, the fictional Roswell Rayguns, featured in a Nike ad campaign with the one and only Vince Carter.
As one of the most coveted Dunks ever to be released, the Nike Air Force 1 “Rayguns” draws cues from the jerseys present in that same campaign. In fact, it boasts a mostly white upper, an orange back-end as well as embroidered elements. Further details can be seen on the mini-Swoosh on the toebox and custom insoles. Lastly, subtle black hints round of this streetwear on-feet symbol.
The Nike Air Force 1 ’07 LV8 “Rayguns” will be available online on the 15th of January.
