The New Balance MT580

The reissued New Balance MT580 OG2 brings an icon back to life. Despite a modernized look, the closest possible one-to-one replica is created. A slimmed-down toe and reduced collar height are combined with OG construction. The chunky trail design combined with the OG materials and features is still a head-turner today. The upper is made of a beige mesh with suede and smooth leather overlays in blue. However, it’s not just the design that’s impressive, but also the technology. With the durable rubber outsole and the patented Abzorb technology, the 580 convinces with its comfort. With the rollbar, the cushioning is complete.

Originally a regional model, the 580 caused a stir in the streets of Harajuku, becoming the canvas of one of the first community projects. Launched in 1996 as an adaptation of the “Made in USA” 585, it was a bulkier alternative to the otherwise narrow-running design. For a long time, the New Balance 580 was an exclusive sneaker for the Japanese market only, until it was released in the American market in 2007. Since 2013, the 580 has received another update. As MRT580, it was equipped with a REVLITE sole, but it still retained its striking and unique design.

The New Balance 580 has a cult status in the sneaker community due to its history. Despite its low-key debut, it managed to become the true OG sneaker of a collaboration culture.
